of the main shortcomings in common (superhet) receivers. The dial chord with mechanical pointer makes tuning a little bit of a guess. This device measures the oscillator frequency and displays its value, minus the IF. Unfortunately, my attempts to make this theory work, failed. The counter refuses to count high frequencies (higher than a MHz), and distorts the receiver. Later, my accurate tuning project became a succes with another counter, and i turned this one into a workshop tool.

The unit is a small PCB that could be ordered for under 6 euro from AliExpress. I soldered everything together and got a small frequency counter, unfortunately not sensitive enough for the purpose I had in mind. But I mounted it in a small box, also incudinga 9V battery, and now it can help me align oscillators. 
Here it works on the BFO for my Digilogue Tube receiver.
